Employee Development Worksheet
The Employee Development Worksheet can help you quickly identify an employee's developmental needs and create a plan to help him or her acquire new skills. This worksheet can save you time and money by focusing your development efforts on what the employee truly needs.
Example
An Human Resources coordinator was asked to assume some additional recruiting responsibilities, so her boss thought it would be a good idea to send her to a Recruiting Skills class offered by the local college. Here's a rough estimate the time and cost associated with this class:
- Workshop cost: $469
- Employee time: 28 hours (the class met over 7 sessions)
- Expected results: Improved knowledge of recruiting
The kicker was the Human Resources coordinator may still need some coaching on recruiting skills after the class. And, someone would need to bring her up to speed on the companies specific policies. This was starting to seem like a lot of time and money.
A better solution
We completed the employee development worksheet together and found that the HR Coordinator could start recruiting after a half-day of coaching from the company's recruiter. The coaching could even be spread over a couple weeks to fit around the recruiter's schedule. This was a lot faster, less expensive, and more effective than sending her to a class!
