Is it really social, or just more media?

In March 2010, this question launched a small experiment.  I set out to see if the companies I do business with could increase my engagement through the use of social media tools such as Facebook and Twitter.  The results were terribly disappointing: 7 out of 12 companies I examined decreased my level of engagement and made me less likely to return as a customer.  The good news is I was able to capture the lessons learned in a whitepaper and how-to guide.
